18 people awarded e-Rickshaw at Rs 500 per month

18 people were awarded e-Rickshaw yesterday under the Smart City project. The awardees will have to pay a monthly rental of Rs 500 for running the e-Rickshaw.

Smart City CEO, Siddharth Sihag informed that 86 applications were received for 18 e-Rickshaws. Out of these applications 62 qualified on the basis of eligibility criteria. A lottery was finally taken out and 3 people under handicapped category, 5 under food security policy and 10 below poverty line candidates were awarded the e-Rickshaws.

The awardees will only have to pay Rs 500 to the Municipal corporation and remaining income will all be theirs. Municipal corporation has also earmarked 3 locations for free battery recharging.

Sihag further informed that the e-Rickshaws have been provided by Swiss Government through one of its corporations. It is being proposed to have the e-Rickshaws handed over on 17 Mar to the awardees by Swiss Ambassador to India
