Make sure to save “112” number in your phone

Single emergency helpline number 112, an initiative of Govt. of India under the Nirbhaya funds scheme for ensuring safety of women and children was launched in India in the month of February. Dial 112 from your phone or press power button on smart phone 3 times quickly to activate a panic call to the Emergency Response Centre. The 112 emergency helpline number would provide immediate assistance to services like police (100), fire (101), health (108), women’s safety (1090) and child protection.

‘112’ India mobile app is available on Google Play store and Apple store.  If you do not have a smart phone, you can long press 5 or 9 key in feature phone. The government plans to aim a response time of 10 to 12 minutes to any call, which is sought to be brought further down to around 8 minutes within the next 3-4 months.

16 states and Union Territories planned to roll-out the service in the initial stage which includes Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Andaman, Dadar Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu and Jammu and Kashmir. You can also visit the ERSS website for your state and lodge emergency email or send SOS alert to state ERC.
