Radio City the new kid on the block in Udaipur, has taken a commendable initiative by launching Ann ki Baat… a two week on air activity to create awareness on food wastage.
The program, an initiative by Radio City along with local business houses, viz. Geetanjali Institute (GMCH), Subh Kesari Marriage Garden, Ashoka Bakery, Lake City Mall, Radisson Hotel, etc. was aired in the 7am-11am slot a months back, led by RJ Suri and the young and energetic team at Radio City.
Witnessing phenomenal reception, thousands of listeners tuned in everyday and the station was chocked with hundreds calling in everyday to appreciate the initiative.
Radisson and Ashoka Bakery even went ahead with setting up refrigerators outside their premises, which contained fresh food that was left over from the days activity for the needy to consume.
Radio City was assisted in the logistics by Robin Hood Army, a group of young volunteers who collected the food from these locations and distributed it to the needy.
At present, with almost a month since the activity is going on, GMCH has taken the initiative over the month, to set up a refrigerator near its canteen, which servers thousands of people every day and food for 60-80 people is left over each night. The food used to be thrown away as there was no logistics available to do otherwise.
Now, with the initiative of Radio City, along with the support provided by Robin Hood Army, the food is collected from GMCH and is distributed across needy people in and around the city. Till date, this activity has resulted in feeding almost 900-1000 people.
Ajay and Suri, in an interaction with UdaipurTimes, said that Radio City is committed to drive a new perspective in Udaipur when it comes to better living, communication, entertainment and inclusive social interaction. “Ann ki Baat has been a successful activity, with Udaipur identifying with the need and participating in it to a large extent”, said Ajay.
