Devotees came out with a grand procession to celebrate the 2612^th birth anniversary of Lord Mahaveera, the supreme religious authority in Jainism. Devotees including men, women and children marched in the colorful convoy laden with several tableaus, musical bands and vehicles.

Both groups of Shewtambar and Digambar sects jointly participated in the celebration. Several smaller groups gathered at Town Hall and merged into a large procession.

The tableaus demonstrated social messages against female foeticide, drug addiction and other social bigotries.

Procession was welcomed by offering sweet drinks and flowers at many places in the city.

Following the festival, all businesses and institutions run by Jain community remained closed.

The event was organized by Mahaveer Jain Parishad.
