“Cleartrip” has been penalised by consumer court for not providing rooms booked online.
Two years ago, Ajit Singh Solanki booked online hotel rooms with Cleartrip for the Kumbh fair at Nasik. He was denied rooms in hotel when he reached Nasik. He was informed by staff that there were no hotel rooms booked in his name. The firm has been penalised for irresponsible attitude towards a customer. Consumer court ordered Cleartrip to reimburse all the expenses of Ajit Singh Solanki along with interest of rupees 8500.
Solanki, resident of sector 14 in Hiranmagri, booked his complaint with Consumer court against Cleartrip, Lower Parel, Mumbai. As per his report, he had requested Cleartrip to book 3 rooms in hotel in Nasik since he wanted to avail the opportunity of Holy bath in Nasik Kumbh fair. He paid 3010 rupees for rooms from 28th August to 30th August. The booking was done much in advance to avoid last minute hassles.
When Solanki family reached Nasik, they were shocked to learn that there were no rooms booked in their favour. Since it was peak time of the fair, they were unable to find rooms in any other hotel or guest house. Due to this, the family could not attend the desired ritual of Holy bath.
Consumer forum President Randhir Singh Naruka and Member Anubha Sharma declared the firm’s attitude as irresponsible and ordered Cleartrip to reimburse the expenses paid by Ajit Singh Solanki along with interest. The reimbursement included 3010 rupees towards the cost of hotel rooms that Solanki had paid online and interest of 560 rupees on this amount to be paid within two months. The forum also penalised Cleartrip with 5000 rupees as cost of mental agony and 3500 rupees towards court fees.
