Hathipol police on Tuesday arrested a duo of accused for extorting money by threatening a local businessman for his life. The cops are now interrogating them further in relation to the crime.

Hathipol police on Tuesday arrested a duo of accused for extorting money by threatening a local businessman for his life. The cops are now interrogating them further in relation to the crime.

The accused threatened the victim in the name of a habitual criminal of the city and demanded Rs. 5 Lac from him. Later he lodged a complaint at the police station and the investigation was started.

The key accused was identified as Imran Khan of Kaharwadi area. In the initial investigation it was found that Imran had called the victim demanding Rs. 5 Lac and pretending to have called from the central jail. Based on his information, his aid Maqsood of Sajjan Nagar was also arrested and booked for the crime, said SHO Rajesh Sharma.

SHO further added that the investigation had begun on 25th June after the victim Vipin Mehta, a local businessman, resident of Ashok Nagar reported the police about the demand of extortion money over the mobile phone.

 The police immediately reacted upon the complaint and started the investigation. Call details of the suspected mobile numbers were taken into consideration where finally the main owner was identified as Imran.

Based on a tip off, the police raided the area near the Paltan Masjid, Chetak Circle and nabbed the criminal who later confessed committing the crime. Based on his information, his aid Maqsood was also arrested.

Both are under police interrogation to get more details about their crime.
