Municipal Corporation plans to distribute separate dustbins to public for wet and dry garbage disposal. The step is being taken to assure that wet and dry waste is dumped separately by every house.
Importance of separate dustbins
It has been noticed that public mixes both wet and dry waste at home. This makes it difficult for the garbage collectors to separate the waste before disposing at the right place. As a result, insoluble garbage gets stuck in drains blocking them beyond repair. For the correct disposal of garbage, Corporation has plans to distribute 2 dustbins per house.
This is an important step towards clean city. Corporation is also guiding the public to keep both wet and dry waste in separate bins. This is a general tendency that we dump all the waste from our homes in one bin. From now on, with two separate bins for each house, public will play an important role in keeping the city clean. Disposing the garbage through segregated bins will have a positive effect in the long run.
Municipal Corporation has already distributed dustbins in Ward 1 and 41. After this, all 55 wards will be equipped with wet and dry dustbins. Corporation has already started door to door collection of waste. Each auto tipper has separate containers, but combined waste products are dumped in the tippers. It is almost an impossible task for the waste collectors to separate dry from wet. Hence, garbage disposal is actually inappropriate. To promote proper disposal of garbage, this project of providing separate dustbins is likely to prove a boon.
Garbage diposal plant
After separation of wet and dry waste, Corporation also plans to establish a garbage disposal plant at the earliest. Tenders are being carried out for Ajmer plant on Monday, i.e. today. If the same tender deems fit for Udaipur city, the same plant will be started in Udaipur as well, said Municipal Corporation Commissioner Siddharth Sihag.
