Speak of Rajasthan and globally the image is that of barren land and sand dunes, with a tree here and there, for there to be a talk on greenery. However, Udaipur stands out in this aspect. The lake city, surrounded by the Aravali range, gives it the green touch, as compared to other parts of Rajasthan.
In a first for Rajasthan hence, a school from Udaipur has featured in the Top 10 Green Schools of India. A meticulous effort by Anil Shah and Aditya Shah in nursing an institution they have aspired to build, has facilitated the Education World Grand Jury Award 2018 in the Green School category for the GD Goenka International School, Udaipur.
About the EW Grand Jury Award
This award was instituted in 2016 by Education World, to acknowledge low profile and newly promoted institutions excelling in K12 education parameters over and above the existing 14 traits assessed in the Education World India School Rankings Survey. In its third year since inception, a distinguished jury of educationists decided the Education World Grand Jury Awards for 65 schools across India, in 11 categories. The Green School category was one of them.

700 schools’ applications were received at EW, from all across India. The applications were assessed for evidence and subsequent ranking by a jury of eminent educationists from across the country. The jury that decided the eventual ranking consisted of Shomie Das, formed Principal of Lawrence, Sanawar and The Doon School; Fatema Agarkar, co-founder of KA EduAssociates, Mumbai; Rohit Mahendra, Director of Mahindra Raj Consultants Pvt Ltd; Meeta Sengupta, educationist and senior advisor at Centre for Civil Society, Delhi; Damodar Goyal, President of Society for Unaided Schools of Rajasthan and Kalhan Mattoo, architect.
