Environment Day Celebration at IEI, Udaipur Local Centre

The Institution of Engineers (India), Udaipur Local Centre celebrated world Environment Day in the evening of 5th June 2012. The main theme of the environment day was “Green Economy- Does it include you?” In the beginning of the programme Chairman of the IEI, Udaipur Local Centre Dr. Y.C. Bhatt welcomed all the guests and participants.

The Chief Guest of the event,  S.K. Verma, IFS & Former Chief Conservator of Forests, Forests Department, Govt. of Rajasthan, while addressing the audience said that one has to think globally and act locally to protect the environment.

He also called upon every individual to decide on a few do’s and don’ts in life for the protection of environment and this would go a long way in helping the society. The special guest of the program Prof. Jaswant Singh, Former Professor, IIT Kharagpur shared his views on the current circumstances prevailing in the cultural environment and health that were enveloping society, impacting both present as well as the future.

The Guest Speaker, Prof. B.R. Bamniya, HoD, Department of Environmental Science, MLSU, Udaipur highlighted through his presentation that in the atmosphere, maximum pollution i.e. 85% is due to the Carbon dioxide followed at 8% by Methane gas.

At global levels, the Carbon dioxide density in the atmosphere has reached almost 400 ppm. In environmental pollution, India stands at the 4th position preceded by China, America and Russia. The Guest Speaker, Dr. Satish Sharma highlighted the importance of wild life & vegetation in the bio-diversity of Rajasthan.

He also emphasized to the engineers present in the audience that while taking up development work proper attention needed to be paid to environment protection.

Further, as a part of Environment Day celebrations a written Quiz competition was organized for the engineering students and the winner of the contest were Pratishtha Dashora and runner-up was Saba Kathawala.

In the beginning a leaflet on the environment message written by Er. C.P. Jain and a paper on harmful effects of mobile radiation written by Er. B.L. Jain was distributed to all the members. Towards the end of the program Er. Syed Irshad Ali, Honorary Secretary expressed his vote of thanks. The program was organized by Dr. Deepak Sharma as Programme Coordinator.
