A miniature movie on Udaipur, recorded and developed in 1934, by Gaumont-British Picture Corporation Limited, has gone viral over social media in the last couple of days. This video was uploaded to YouTube in May 2015, which is part of an archive of old movies by a Youtube Channel owner (Shahrukh Khan).
This clip title “Fair City of Udaipur”, forms a part of the series of miniature movies clubbed under the documentary “Secrets of India“, produced by Gaumont-British Pictures Corporation Ltd in 1934. These educational geography films were a part of the company’s involvement in the filmed flight over Mount Everest, footage of which appeared in Wings Over Everest (1934).
Two members of the crew, cameraman S.R. Bonnett and Director Geoffrey Bank were involved in the shooting of Fair City of Udaipur. This documentary was re-edited in 1937 and re-issued as “A Central Indian Town: Udaipur”.
Our regular patron, Qayyum Hussain, who has shared this information with us, says that the video is of the same year as his birth.
