This festive season turned out to be quite an unexpected situation for school children. Examination dates clashed with festivals and parents were forced to send their kids to school.

Though Gangaur festival is not a festival that comes under state holidays, but it is certainly celebrated in Rajasthan with full enthusiasm. Similarly, Cheti Chand celebrations were missed by a lot of school going children since they had to appear for exams. School administration has stayed negligent towards festival dates. Exam dates were finalised without taking festivals into consideration making the kids stay away from Gangaur and Cheti Chand festivities.

Children need to be a part of important festivals. Unless they get to know what each festival means, they cannot actively participate in maintaining Indian culture. With exams falling on same day as festivals, a lot of parents felt the pinch.

School administration must be extremely vigilant regarding exam dates during festival season. With many festivals falling in around Holi, exams dates must be fixed accordingly. Since the festival of Cheti Chand is basically a declared state holiday, action will be taken against schools which overruled this and held examinations. All schools will henceforth be notified to keep festivals and government holidays in mind before planning examination schedules.
