Mobile numbers of female students have been leaked by Sukhadia University. These students are now troubled by wrong and fake calls. On one hand UGC says that even the Adhar number of students cannot be made public. There on the other hand, mobile numbers of female students have been disclosed on University’s website.
First list of female students taking admission in B.Com First year was uploaded on the web site. This list had all details of students along with their mobile numbers. Now that the mobile numbers have been revealed on the site, these female students are regularly getting wrong calls which include calls and messages from student’s union. Because of election time, student representatives and those fighting elections try to reach as many students as possible for getting maximum votes. The availability of mobile numbers on the site has made it easy for the contestants to pressurise students for votes. Some of the callers are only posing trouble for the female students by making indecent calls. Students have demanded strict action on this.
A meeting was held in the University regarding this issue. In the meeting all election representatives have been warned by the Vice Chancellor not to call or message any of the students. Professor JP Sharma said that there has been a lapse in uploading the first list of students of B.Com stream. This has now been rectified. He clarified that election reps have been given strict instructions that no calls should be made to the students.
Student Union President Dimple Bhavsar commented that leaking mobile numbers of female students creates a long time hassle for them. She said that even she had to face a lot of problems in the last elections apart from phone calls and messages. She laid emphasis on maintaining privacy regarding female students.
