A new bridge was proposed to be built at Chandpole near Gadia Devra at Lake Pichola. The bridge work was on hold following a stay requested by a contractor as the tender of the contractor was cancelled by Municipal Corporation. The reason behind cancelling this tender was that just one tender was received for the construction of bridge.

Municipal Corporation had invited tenders for the construction of a new bridge at Lake Pichola from Rovania Ghat to the western end of Hanuman Ghat in 2017. Since only one tender application was received, Municipal Corporation cancelled this tender against which the contractor of the construction company under the banner of Hema Constructions appealed in the High Court and asked for a stay. During hearing, Municipal Corporation stated that the construction company had given high rates and inviting new tenders would probably bring in low rate tenders.

High Court allowed Municipal Corporation to invite new tenders under the condition that Municipal Corporation would present the new tenders in sealed envelope to the High Court. It was also directed that Municipal Corporation would not finalise any tender without the Court’s permission. The directives were followed by Municipal Corporation. In the hearing that took place on Thursday, the court rejected the stay appeal of the contractor after the arguments presented by both the parties and found that the arguments of Corporation’s lawyer had a stronger base than that of the contractor.
