Charging Rs.10 extra beyond the quoted price has put retail chain Reliance Retail in trouble with consumer court ordering them to pay Rs.2500 to the customer as compensation.

The petitioner, Veer Prakash Chittora had gone to Reliance Retail on 20-Feb-2017 for buying potatoes. The price mentioned at the store was Rs 7.5 per kg. However, when he went to the billing counter, he was charged Rs 60.39 with calculations of Rs 9 per kg.

When Chittora confronted the executive at check-out counter, the executive started misbehaving with him and forcibly charged him the additional amount.

Chittora then approached Consumer Forum with his complaint. After investigating the complaint, the Consumer Forum bench ordered Reliance Retail to pay back Rs 10 that was taken as additional charge, Rs 1000 for mental trouble caused to the petitioner and Rs 1500 as legal fees amounting to a total of Rs 2510.
