Encroachment demolition in areas around Fatehpura on Wednesday casued much uproar. UIT, though, was adamant as the demolition work was carried out subsequent to orders from the High Court.Fatehpura-Pula road, Fatehpura-Sipohn road, 100′ road, etc were the areas which the demolition squad, consisting of two teams, targetted on Wednesday. UIT was very specific, when it said that any obstruction to the demolition work will be dealt with legal action.
All the above mentioned areas, are facing a thick traffic situation. Footpaths are meant for pedestrians and any construction on footpaths means encroachment.
UIT said that this activity is meant to continue till the footpaths of the city areas are cleared.
Police have also stepped up their enforcement activities, after the Bhupalpura police took the initiative of “Operation Chauraha”.
This project involved police teams to go around the chaurahas of the city and take anti social elements into custody. The first such activity took place at Sevashram Chauraha on Wednesday.
The modus operandi involves selecting chauraha per evening – the teams will spread around the chauraha and take into custody all suspicious looking people, who are seen frittering around tea stalls, pan shops and such. Sensitive chaurahas, areas near schools, colleges, etc will be mainly covered under this operation. People who are picked up, will be verified for their identity, their families will be spoken to and then they will be released. This activity will be conducted every evening from 6-10.
Regular eve-teasing complaints has resulted in the preparation and implementation of this project.
