Sociologists gather to discuss societal changes and issues


More than 1000 sociologists assembled today for 38th All India Sociological Conference, which started at MLSU auditorium. Sociologists came along to discuss the topic – Contemporary Indian Society: Challenge and response.

Addressing the assembly, Chief Guest on the occasion, Professor I .V Trivedi, Dean MLSU said that in the age of information revolution, geographical distances have lowered but emotional distances have increased. Such developments have impacted our society in a huge manner.

On the occasion, Professor Chintamani Lakshmana from Chennai, Professor Uttam B Bohita from Pune and Professor K L Sharma from Sirohi were awarded with a lifetime achievement award. Thereafter technical sessions were organized.

During the seminar, many social issues were discussed including the issue related to Delhi Gang Rape. Dowry, female feticide and some other social evils were also discussed.
