The styloid process generally measures 20 to 25 mm but in this patient these were measuring 35 to 40 mm. After this by performing an intra oral procedure names bilateral styloidectomy was performed thereby removing the elongated styloid process. The patient recovered well and will not suffer from any such problem in near future. The patient was treated free of cost under the government scheme of “Bhamashah Swasthya Bima Yojana”.
What is Styloid Process?
The styloid process is a slender pointed piece of bone just below the ear. It projects down and forward from the inferior surface of the temporal bone, and serves as an anchor point for several muscles associated with the tongue and larynx. The tissues in the throat rub on the styloid process during the act of swallowing with resulting pain along the gloss pharyngeal nerve.
