WhatsApp is working on a set of interesting features to increase the convenience of the App even more. Some of these features are already available for beta testers of the app while others are under development and shortly to be released.

Three of the key features expected in the upcoming updates include swipe to reply, dark mode and additional features for group chats.

As part of “Swipe to Reply” feature, users will be able to quickly reply to a message using a swipe gesture. Currently users have to top and hold the message box to get the reply button. With the new feature, users will just need to swipe right the message they want to reply to and the message will automatically be loaded in the reply context. This feature is already available to iOS users and will shortly be made available to Android users.

WhatsApp is also planning to launch the “Dark Mode” feature for both iOS and Android. This feature will help in reducing the strain on user’s eyes when using the app in dark and will also help in conserving the battery.

Besides, there will be new features added for group chats. This will give powers to admin to bar members from messaging on the group. With this admins will decide which member can send messages in the group – however, all members will be able to read the message. For using this setting, admin will need to go to group settings and select send messages herein. The admin will get two options here : “all participants” or “only admins” can participate in the conversation. This feature has already been made available for iOS and Android users.
