Netra Q2 drone, a drone that has been developed for surveillance and reconnaissance operations will now be of assistance to Udaipur Police for keeping track of people stuck in emergency and also of criminals from the sky. This drone that was being used by Army until now will now be put to more use by the police departments of Udaipur.
This drone will keep track of criminals and make it easy for the police to arrest them. The operational altitude is 200 meters. It is a light weight drone and uses quadcopters. It doesn’t require much maintenance since it has only rotors, motors and transmissions. It can be launched from a very small clearing and can fly up to 2 kilometers from take-off point. The zoom in camera can identify human activity upto more than 300 meters. It can give a clear picture of human activity. Udaipur police have now been equipped with Netra Q2 drone which will work as an assistant to police team in tracking criminals, keeping a check on people stuck in emergencies hence making it easy for the police to take actions at the earliest and effectively.
With Udaipur region surrounded by Aravali range which makes it easy for the criminals to hide, the Q2 drone will keep track of criminal activities even among the hills. ASP Brijesh Soni tested the drone on Tuesday in Police lines. It is now ready to be operated in the city.
The drone also comes with a few disadvantages. Netra Q2 cannot withstand heavy rains and its signals go weak if it comes in close range with any 4G tower. So it might not prove fruitful during floods.
18 policemen have undergone training with Q2 drone for 15 days. Apart from Army, MP and Chhattisgarh Police are also equipped with Netra Q2. ASP Brijesh Soni said that the drone has been created by students of IIT Khadagpur and Idea Force Company. This drone was also a part of hindi movie 3-Idiots.
