Udaipur will soon play host to an all-weather swimming pool at Khel Gaon. This will be the second all-weather swimming pool in the State after Jaipur. While the Jaipur all-weather swimming pool has 6-lanes, Udaipur pool will have 8-lanes.
State Sports Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar gave his approval for converting the swimming pool at Khel Gaon into an all-weather facility. Set-up of this facility will allow swimmers in Udaipur to practice throughout the year including winters and monsoon.
Conversion of Khel Gaon swimming pool into an all-weather facility will cost Rs 2.5 Cr to Rs 3 Cr. Conversion of the pool will help the Sports Council save upto 22 Lakh litres of water every year. Currently the council has to change water every year. The new water has to be thoroughly tested and only then can be used. This also entails a cost of Rs 4-5 Lakh every year. By conversion into all-weather pool, council will be able to save this amount. They would be able to recycle and use the existing water. Water will need replacement every 5 years.
Council is conducting tests to make pool all weather this year. The pool will remain open in winters this year. Council expects additional revenues of Rs 3.5 Lakh due to conversion of pool into all-weather.
