The Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) razed around 10 houses at Manoharpura locality in Badgaon, declaring it as encroachment over Government land holdings. Families residing in these houses were forced to leave their property.
Today, encroachment squad of UIT along with heavy police force reached Manoharpura earlier this morning, where they knocked down 10 well constructed houses claiming it as an encroachment over government land.
According to Lal Singh Devda, Tehsildar, Badgaun, “A notice was given to residents of the colony notifying to vacant their respective houses. But when squad reached the area, families were still residing on the property. Everyone was moved out of their respective houses and property was demolished.”
Devda added, “Squad ensured that none of the belongings were confiscated from the spot and safely removed from the houses.”
According to residents of Manoharpura locality they had been residing over the property from past two years. UIT had given them a notice to leave their property. Replying to that notice they presented the matter before court and brought a Court Stay over any further action from UIT.
Residents also alleged UIT for destroying temple located within the locality, which was established about hundred years ago by the ancestors under the crownship of Maharanas.
The agitated residents have given a memorandum to district collector to look into the matter and provide satisfactory decision.
District Collector has ensured a proper investigation of the matter before passing orders to any of the department.
