Sufi swirls? Hard-core Kathak? Ghumar spins? Well, all this and much more
Dance has truly become like water: trickling, dripping, splashing and often, storming its way through all boundaries and what-ifs. If you thought an Indian Classical Genre like Kathak was all about extreme percussion and the captivating vortex of feet, it’s time to refill your perception.
The crew of Kala Ashram College of Performing Arts is all set to break some myths and cast new spells as they get ready for the big day tomorrow. The countdown to Naad-Gunjan 2017 is ticking with ferocity now as the students and artists give some final touches and practice-rounds for what they are about to whip up today evening.
It is intended to be a quintessential celebration of Dance and what it stands for at the core of its soul. If you walk in to see some classical heritage, you would get that for sure, but be prepared to drop some jaws when you see Sufi fluidity interpreted in a new language by some students. One moment you would be swinging your heads in a spiritual hypnosis and the very next moment, you would be indulging yourself in the legacy of Pt. Bindadin Maharaj ji’s timeless compositions. There’s Shudh Kathak, there’s Ghoomar, there’s Thumri, there’s Sargam and many dimensions of Kathak explored in a new amalgam of the history, future and imagination.
Make sure you get a peek at this wonderful garden of many shades of dance tomorrow April 29th, 6 pm onwards at RCA Auditorium.
Dr. Saroj Sharma, Director, Kala Ashram College of Performing Arts stated, “We all are very excited to share our own worship of dance in a lovely basket with this event. Dance is no more limited to a hobby or a distraction. It is being seriously sought as an earnest education ilk and also for its healing potential.” Incidentally, Kala Ashram Foundation, the overarching body of the college, has recently started an alternative healing practice that entails dance as a strong element.
The event would also see many lovely toddlers exhibiting their hard work of the year as they blossom in front of their parents and loved ones. Awards would also be given by Chief Guest Pratishtha Thakur, TV actress and Chairman Dr. Dinesh Khatri.
