Ayad River Demarcation on the Cards. Diya Rabi SDM will form committee to demarcate Ayad River as per original map and remove encroachment in Udaipur

Udaipur District Collector Arvind Poswal, accompanied by Udaipur MLA Tarachand Jain and Mayor Goving Singh Tak inspected the banks of Ayad river once again, in response to complaints of encroachment. Subsequent to their recce, the team has agreed on commissioning an overhaul of the area and demarcation of the Ayad River afresh on the basis of old maps.

The administration had been receiving complaints of encroachment alongside the Ayad river that has resulted in the shrinking of the width of the river bed. The stakeholders of the administration, which included the Collector, Mayor and MLA, were accompanied by officers of the relevant department of Udaipur Nagar Nigam as they took stock of the situation alongside the river banks on foot.

The Ayad River takes its origin from the southeastern slopes of the mountains near the town of Gogunda. As it meanders for approximately 30 km, it makes its way into the city, entering near the Syphon Choraha and eventually merging with the Girva close to the Sevashram Bridge.

Poswal along with other public representatives reached Ayad Bridge at 1030am on 1 February. There they walked through a culvert across the dirt road and descended into the river bed. Residents of the area informed them that the original width of the river bed was 200ft but due to encroachments the width has shrunk substantially. The Collector gathered information from the representatives of the Udaipur Development Authority (previously UIT) and the Udaipur Nagar Nigam (Municipal Corporation). The team walked alonside the river bed and reached the end adjacent to Anand Plaza. Officers were given instructions to adhere to the previous orders of breaking the CC and joining the line and taking necessary action.

Residents of the area complained that a residential colony had come up near the cemetry alongside the river bed and drainages had been blocked. After listening to the complaints, the Collector instructed investigation into the matter at the earliest.

The team then reached the Pula bridge segment of Ayad River (Sukher Road) and took stock of the situation there. Residents in the area complained of encroachment by the land owners and the Collector and MLA reconciled the current marking with that of the orignal demarcation, and the report prepared by the UDA.
