City Bus Service Started on Two Routes

The much awaited city bus services was started once again in Udaipur today. Mayor Rajni Dangi of Udaipur Municipal Corporation (UMC) along with District Collector and other guests waved off six buses on 2 routes. On the first day passengers were given free ride across city.

The much awaited city bus services was started once again in Udaipur today. Mayor Rajni Dangi of Udaipur Municipal Corporation (UMC) along with District Collector and other guests waved off six buses on 2 routes. On the first day passengers were given free ride across city.

In a ceremony organized at UMC Campus, UMC officially commenced public transport I shape of City Bus Service, which will be operating on two routes viz. Rampura Circle to Dabok and Eklingpura to Badi (T.B Hospital) from 6 am to 10 pm every day.

According to Rajni Dangi, ”Initially 6 buses are deployed on both the routes, operating contract of which was given to Rawal and Sons. Minimum fare to avail service will be Rs.5 per head whereas maximum will be Rs.20 per head.”

“The service has been deployed in city on a BO (Billed to Operate) format for tenure of five years” added Dhanpal Swami, President – Transport Committee.

Dhanpal Swami also informed that 6 more buses will be added shortly. This will increase frequency of buses as 6 buses would be operating on each route. “Starting buses on other routes across city is one among other targets of UMC” said Swami.

According to Ashutosh A.T Pednekar, District Collector, Udaipur, “These buses will surely add a charm to the city if operated in an organized way. Drivers employed in each of these buses must be friendly in nature” suggested Pednekar.

Sources inform that after almost 3 years this service has been resumed for city. Earlier it was discontinued as operators were incurring loss, reason being fare for availing service was very low.
