City Bus Services to Resume City Roads

The much needed local transport is expected to be restarted in various parts of the city, as approved in a board meeting organized at Udaipur Municipal Corporation (UMC) today.

The much needed local transport is expected to be restarted in various parts of the city, as approved in a board meeting organized at Udaipur Municipal Corporation (UMC) today.

Initially the buses will operate on four routes yet to be announced, corporation has just invited applications from licensed Bus Operators (BOs).

In the meeting held under the headship of Rajni Dangi, after formal approvals of Corporators the Mayor announced to start City Bus Services. This facility will serve the masses for 5 years term from 6am to 10pm daily, for the purpose UMC in the process of appointing licensed bus operators of the city.

Upon the sanction of long awaited service, corporators shared few suggestions for smooth operation.

Dinesh Shirmali, Opposition Leader said, “Instead of giving responsibility to private operators, UMC should start buses at its own expense after seeking due permissions from Central Government”.

Manish Shrimali, Corporator, Congress said, “Before starting the service UMC must ensure that proper arrangements for residents on either side of the roads, he also suggested to discontinue the ‘Autowalas’ who are carrying out business without authorized permissions”.

Kiran Jain, Corporator, BJP said, “Several bus stops recently constructed by UMC have been encroached by street hawkers that should be shifted, while safety arrangements for lady passengers must be encouraged in buses”.

Official sources informed that the city bus service will take around a year to come out of papers. Fare of availing the bus service will vary between Rs. 5 – Rs. 20 depending on the travel distance, further concession of nearly 50% in fare will be provided to physically challenged and students.
