Finally, the city buses will be back! UMC Sanctions Rs. 195 crore Budget

Due to the prolonged political-bureaucratic mismatch which made the local citizens of Udaipur suffer after the discontinuation of city buses, finally Udaipur Municipal Council has agreed to re-start the one of the most needed transport facility in Udaipur.

Due to the prolonged political-bureaucratic mismatch which made the local citizens of Udaipur suffer after the discontinuation of city buses, finally Udaipur Municipal Council has agreed to re-start the one of the most needed transport facility in Udaipur.

The declaration was made today in a raucous board meeting of council where board sanctioned the whopping Rupees 195 crore on the development of Udaipur. Opposition councilors were seen not so happy with the announcement and walked off from the meeting, Team Rajni Dangi was looking contended and confident for what they have decided.

After 2 years, UMC has now decided to start City Bus service; the Board has kept apart Rs. 2 crore for the same to be spent under the dedicated head.

Though the tender notice is still to be announced with revised rates and other required paperwork, the council is positive to launch this service in coming financial year.

The next big thing is Golf Cart service at Fateh Sagar and Gulab Bagh, Municipal Council is expecting to generate Rs.34 Lacs per annum from this. Six Golf Carts will be engaged at each of both the places.

Tender for procurement of Golf Carts had been announced on 9th September 2012 and has been sanctioned; work order for the same will be given in the next session.

The council has also planned to develop Parking Lots at various places in town which might ease the biggest problems of every motorist at present.

UMC has planned to spend a handsome amount on construction of parking lots and Auditorium, identifying various locations in congested market places like Bapu Bazaar, Nehru Bazaar and Bada Bazaar etc.

A Special Dedicated Auditorium will also be made by the council to host several social and cultural programs.

Fare of Kids’ Train at Gulab Bagh is increased by 20%, driving the leisure more expensive for both Kids and the Family.

Appointing of Sweeping Staff as per State Government order which was delayed due to several reasons will now be accomplished before 31st March; the council has received more than eight thousand applications for the positions in the department.

The budget was discussed for expected income and expenditure under respective heads for the coming fiscal year. In the current financial year the council spent only Rs. 73 crore against the budgeted amount of Rs. 141 crore, which scores for less than 60 % achievement in current fiscal; despite the budgeted expenditure of Rs. 195 crore was sanctioned for the upcoming year.

“In the current session due to strike of contractors of UMC, which went on for nearly 6 months, the development works were adversely affected in various parts of the town”, said Rajni Dangi, Chairperson of UMC, in support of the unspent 40% balance of current year budget.
