Senior BJP leader and former Rajasthan Minister uses abusive language with Media personnel in Udaipur

Gulab Chand Kataria, MLA from Udaipur and leader of the opposition at the Rajasthan State Assembly hurled abuses at media personnel and used unparliamentary language for a senior member of Udaipur media, while interacting with media at Udaipur on Friday, 11 September. Members of Lake City Press Club presented a memorandum addressed to the Governor of Rajasthan through the District Collector, Chetan Ram Deora today afternoon. In the absence of the Collector, the memorandum was handed over to the ADM, OP Bunkar.

Pratap Singh Rathore, President of Lake City Press Club said that the senior BJP leader treated the members of the media in a most derogatory manner on two occasions both during the board meeting of the Nagar Nigam on 11 September.

Kataria uses unparliamentary language with reporters

While speaking to media persons outside the Nigam hall after the board meeting on 11 September, Kataria seemed to be overwhelmed with arrogance. His handling of the media was unparliamentary and did not speak well for his stature as well as for BJP, the party that he has been representing for decades. Responding to a question of why media was not allowed in the meeting hall, Kataria said that media can print whatever they want ("जिसे जो मर्ज़ी है छाप लो"). Indirectly referring to a senior member of media from Udaipur, he used a few words that are not printable. Members of the Lake City Press Club, along with independent persons from the media in Udaipur will be presenting a memorandum addressed to the Governor through the District Collector today afternoon.

Media not permitted to cover the Nagar Nigam board meeting

The scene described above took place at the Udaipur Nagar Nigam board meeting, held at 11am on Friday, 11 September at Nagar Nigam office. Citing COVID and other norms, media personnel who were covering the meeting were asked to leave the meeting hall and the hall was sealed. This is the first time that media personnel were made to exit unceremoniously from the Nagar Nigam meeting, which they usually cover and report.
