District Collector Ashutosh Pednekar emphasized on citizen awareness towards Traffic Rules in a meeting of the City’s Administrative task force, lined up to prepare for the upcoming Road Safety Week (16th-22nd February).

In his list of followups for the Officers of the administrative task force, he instructed them to ensure that all Auto Rickshaws plying in Udaipur should have Meters installed in them and should be religiously followed. Any Auto Rickshaw found not plying or charging through Meter system will be penalized on the spot through Flying Squads on the roads.

He further emphasized on the need for public awareness towards road safety and identified various programs for the week, focusing on creating public awareness.

Maintaining and following traffic protocol including road lights, road signs, parking regulations, over crowding of commercial vehicles, etc should be addressed immediately and violators should be fined on the spot by Flying Squads. Pednekar instrcuted Officials to initiate this action during the Road Safety Week and carry it over to all days even after the week.

He also suggested that video cameras should be used to trace and identify drivers not following the protocols and E-Challans should be issued.

Various activities will be carried out during the Road Safety Week, including an Awareness Rally by Police, Traffic and Education Department. Pamphlets, Folders and Hoarding Boards will be used with the help of Auto Dealers Association and NGOs. Competitions on SMS and Photography are also the part of the events.
