Around 60,000 two-wheeler of 6 series which had been registered before April 2005 will now be provided with 10-digit registration numbers, according to Regional Transport Department.

The complexity is that the new software can feed only 10 digits as compared to the 11 digit numbers that had of vehicles registered before 2005. In cases of selling or renewal of vehicles, the department is facing problems in feeding the data of the vehicles online.

It is to be considered that prior to 2005, 6 series vehicles were registered, with each series having 10,000 vehicles.

In case the number of a vehicle is RJ-27-10M-1234, the new number would become RJ-27-10MA-1234. Likewise, in the place of 11M, the new number would be RJ-27-MB-1234.

In the new series, the registration number will have English alphabet C, D, E and F to denote the increment years. In this way, the 10 digits numbers will easily be fed in the software.

Kaansingh Parihar, DTO Udaipur informed that the transfer and renewal work will happen only after the provision of the new numbers. There is no fee involved.

From next week the transport department will start the issue of new series RJ-27-VS for the registration of the two-wheelers. Owners can apply at the department in advance.
