PM’s Jan Dhan Scheme Launched, 2.36 lac Bank Account Open on First Day 

District Level launching of Jan Dhan Scheme was held today at Udaipur Municipal Corporation campus. The ceremony was organized by SBBJ (State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur).

District Level launching of Jan Dhan Scheme was held today at Udaipur Municipal Corporation campus. The ceremony was organized by SBBJ (State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur).

The scheme intends to add every Indian family with core banking systems. On first day of the scheme, SBBJ opened 2.36 lac accounts, while the target was 1 lac.

The launching was officially announced by Gulab Chand Kataria, State Minister, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj. He informed that all these accounts have been opened on a Zero balance, more over with least documentations.

Kataria also informed that Zero balance account can be opened using minimum document of Adhaar Card or Adhaar card number. The account holders will also be provided with over draft facilities upto limit of Rs.5000. In addition to this, accidental insurance of Rs.1 lac and life insurance of Rs.30 will be given to all new account opening till 26th January 2015.

The scheme was recently announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15th August, which was launched within very short notice of less than 15 days.

A Grand ceremony was also organized in Vigyan Bhawan at New Delhi in presidency of Narendra Modi, where chief ministers of all the states were present. Modi added that money of various government schemes would be directly transferred into the beneficiaries account.

According to recent statistics, more than 40% of Indian families are unaware of banking system. The challenge behind launching of Jan Dhan scheme is to add those 40% population with core banking system. The scheme will also demoralize money laundering and corruption.
