Tourism department to survey paying-guest accommodations

Tourism department is on a survey to find details of paying-guest accommodations in Udaipur city.  With a view to find the exact numbers of tourists in the city and their security, tourism department will now create a list of all the hotels, dharamshalas and private paying-guest accommodations.

It is being estimated that the unregistered paying-guest accommodations will outnumber the registered accommodations. Once all the paying-guest accommodations are registered, it will be convenient to figure out the exact number of tourists. Following this government is likely to sanction more budgets to the tourism department for the development of tourism.

Ward inspectors of Municipal Corporation will carry out the survey for this purpose. Tourism department is preparing a proforma which will have to be filled with details of hotels, food and the authorisation number along with other relevant information. Ward inspectors will go door to door to find out details of paying-guest accommodations. Whether these accommodations are registered or not will also be checked by these ward inspectors. Along with the registration details, ward inspectors will also check if these accommodations have necessary documentations pertaining to NOC from pollution control board.

After the survey report, a final report will be created and action will be taken based upon this final report. All the paying-guest accommodation owners will be notified for registration failing which action will be taken against them. The issue of unregistered paying-guest accommodations was raised recently in the district meet of Hotel association.

As per Tourist officer Vivek Joshi, the survey will prove to be beneficial from both security and development point of view of tourists and tourism. The survey will reveal the exact number of paying-guest accommodations in Udaipur city. Many tourists stay in unregistered accommodations as a result of which the exact head count of tourists is not known.

Registration fee for paying-guest accommodation is 500 rupees in tourism department. Hotels and dharamshalas are registered by Municipal Corporation.  As per information, only 450 paying-guest accommodations are registered so far. The old city lanes have a number of unregistered paying-guest accommodations. There is no record of foreign and domestic tourists staying in these unregistered places. Registration is important from the point of view of security as well.
