Tragic State of Ayad River ContinuesIn order to discuss over the Interim Project Report given by Wapcos a meeting was called by the District Collector in the conference hall of Collectorate yesterday, wherein a disagreement on responsibility of cleaning of river broke into a heavy argument between Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) and Udaipur Municipal Corporation (UMC) and added another tragedy to the historical Ayad River.

According to the sources, the officials of Municipal Corporation refused to clean river stating that it does not fall under authority of Corporation and motioned that responsibility of the same is lies with UIT; whereas officials of UIT denied from the responsibility with an excuse that they had never carried out or confirmed any such activity.

The discussion turned into argument when both the agencies kept themselves aloof of the responsibility of cleaning. Thereafter, Vikas Bhale District Collector took the call and instructed UMC to complete job while incurred funds will be provided from UIT budget.

In proceedings of the meeting, UIT commented over the interim project report and declared it to be a impractical, as UIT will have to forward the final report to Central Government for feasibility and monitory consideration. Whereupon, the representatives of Wapcos informed that provided report is not final and the complete Project Report will be given only in June 2013.

After several attempts and hundreds of verdicts on Ayad River, UIT estimated an expense of Rs. 907 crores for beautification and development of around 4000-year-old River. The project is included in NLCP (National Lake Conservation Project), while a private consultant, Wapcos Co. is appointed for Detailed Project Report (DPR).
