Former Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Tejendra Khanna gave his suggestions for the Udaipur Smart City Project. He said that Udaipur smart city project should be handed over to Retired Army Officers for a good and quick progress of the city. He also said that controls of all agencies taking care of cleanliness and Municipal corporation and UIT should be given to retired army officers who will, in less than 6 months, give the needed face-lift to the city. According to Khanna, the city will get the best of glitter on the world map under the watchful eyes of army officers. Khanna had tried this experiment in Delhi while he was LT. Governor and it proved to be very successful. Army, Air Force and Navy have retired officers who can be termed as Gold Standard Professionals.

Khanna emphasised that these retired army officers are honest to the core. They are quite competent, responsible and answerable. They do not follow any discrimination. They know how to put money to right use. They can handle encroachments very strongly. Retired army officers are like rocks who know their duties and stand for them. No one can move an army officer, though it is a sad thing that if they don’t stay strong they are turned into doormats by politicians. Khanna said that only army can convert India into clean India and he will put forward his request to the Prime Minister regarding this matter.

He said that if the city is big, then it should have 7 retired officers from all 3 wings. Else 3 officers will be able to handle all. They will follow the smart city project work as a service towards nation and will complete it in the given duration. Former Lt.Governor also said that he will forward his request to the PM regarding this experiment beginning from Udaipur. If the experiment proves to be successful, it can be enforced even in the other cities.

He said that if on grassroot level, Patwari, BDO, SDO, DYSP and Tehsildars start working on this project then it can be made successful in no time. Transparency in work policies is required to be enforced equally in all offices and departments.

Tejendra Khanna also connected to Vidhya Bhawan Society.
