City surveillance through 800 CCTV cameras

City surveillance is being thought over to control crime rates in Udaipur city. 800 CCTV cameras will be installed at various points in the city.

Growing crime rate has become a serious matter for Udaipur city. Every now and then, some or the other crime news makes its way into headlines causing much concern. To control criminal activities and to nab such evil elements, CCTV cameras will be installed. From the inner city limits to the extreme outer regions, high capacity CCTV cameras will keep an eye on crime. Command and control point for these cameras will be made in Municipal Corporation. Policemen will be appointed who will keep an eye on the city’s movements round the clock.

Project head Bhaumik Behl said that all of these 800 cameras will be of high quality to record clear visuals at night. The cameras will record visuals upto a distance of 500 metres. 8 metre high poles are being erected for installing these cameras. Each pole will have 3 to 4 cameras. CCTV cameras are being installed till Nai and Dabok regions.

District Collector Bishnu Charana Mallick has written to police department, electricity department, Municipal Corporation, UIT and BSNL regarding this project. The project is being launched by Information Technology and Communications department. Kota has already started this surveillance project.

List of sensitive areas given by police department

The Collector had asked for a list of sensitive areas from the police departments. The sensitive areas mean areas where criminals are active. Based on this, Ambamata SI has demanded installing CCTV cameras in 30 areas. Similarly other police stations have also provided the information based on which installation work of CCTV cameras is in progress.

M/S Rajasthan Crane Services, M/S Orion Pro Solution ltd. and M/S L&T/Tech Mahindra have been given the responsibility of erecting poles in the city. Work has begun ay UIT circle. JCB machines are working on making holes for placement of poles.

No fiddling possible

The best part about these hi-tech cameras is that criminals cannot fiddle with them. The connectivity lines will be laid underground. Every pole will have electricity metre, too. Criminal minds will not be able to cut off the wires or cables of these hi-tech CCTV cameras.

ASP Sudhir Joshi said that keeping an on the city’s activities through these cameras will facilitate immediate action on crime. A storage data centre for the back-up facility has been created at Collectorate.
