Project against defecation in open

Steps are on to make Udaipur district free of open defecation.

A project against defecation in open has been started by District administration in collaboration with Police. openBeat constables will go door to door to gather information regarding problems being faced by people in the construction of toilets.( Beat police typically patrol on foot or bicycle which provides more interaction between police and community members).

To make Udaipur district free of open defecation by 2018, police and district administration have taken steps in this direction. With the aim to declare Udaipur as ODF (Open defecation free), the entire beat constables have been asked to go to every house in the villages and discuss the problems faced in construction of toilets at home. They will also help them find solutions for this and notify these problems to the officers of higher cadre.

As per Collector Vishnu Charan Mallik, until now the steps towards making the city free of open defecation were being carried out by public reps, NGOs, teachers and students. Since beat constables have a good hold on their areas, they will henceforth find out the various problems faced by people in their area and also come to a conclusion for eradicating these problems. This way Udaipur district will achieve its target of gaining the ODF title in the given time span.

Collector Mallik also said that more than 25000 toilets have been constructed already and nearly 40000 are under construction. 196 panchayats out of 544 have been declared as ODF. The remaining 348 will very soon follow the same. Plans have already been chalked out as per which Gogunda, Semari, Vallabhnagar and then Mavli will be made ODF first. The process will continue till all panchayats are declared ODF.

Almost 2000 police jawans of 42 stations will contribute in this project. SP Rajendra Goyal said that these 2000 police jawans will dedicatedly visit each house and make the people understand the advantages of being ODF. A VC will be carried out every Saturday in the presence of SI, Tehsildar, SDO and other officials.
