Traffic Congestion | District Collector advocates the need for a robust Traffic Management Plan in Udaipur

Road monitoring and picking up vehicles that are not following the rules and taking strict action against them will be one of the major tasks under this plan of action.

The District Collector of Udaipur, Chetan Deora advocated the need for reform in the traffic management across Udaipur district. He reiterated that if the will and intent are followed by an honest approach, then the traffic management across the district will improve considerably.

In his address to members of the Traffic Management Committee, the Collector suggested the creation of a draft Traffic Management Plan to mitigate the congestion caused by the increasingly nasty traffic in Udaipur district and implement organized Traffic Management. He said that that draft should be prepared under the joint participation of UIT, Traffic Department, Traffic Police and Nagar Nigam.

He also approved the proposal of discontinuing plying of commercial diesel vehicles more than 15 years old across Udaipur district.

The other important directions given by Chetan Deora included immediate identification of temporary encroachments by hawkers on public parking spaces in tourist areas including Fatehsagar, Saheliyon ki Badi, Sukhadia Circle, Dudh Talai, etc and removing such encroachments under strict compliance and sanitization of all government and administration owned passenger vehicles and goods vehicles.

The District Collector further gave orders to improve the safety and disaster management on major roads and highways across the Udaipur district. In order to do this, the first step approved by him was to form a Highway Management Committee, which will define safety protocols on major roads and highways as well take steps to mitigate accidents. Road monitoring and picking up vehicles that are not following the rules and taking strict action against them will be one of the major tasks in this process.
