Curfew schedule impacts tourism in Udaipur

Section 144 has resulted in a drop in the number of tourists in Lake City.

-Hotel and taxi bookings have been cancelled, hence the disappointment.

-Tourist points get deserted and face the horror of a pin drop silence.

-Restaurants suffer huge losses.

Covid-19 has had an extremely bad effect on the lives of people. People have lost jobs, businesses have slowed down and depression has become an avoidable part of people’s lives. Even tourism industry had come to a halt but when things were getting a little better and a boost was being expected, corona hit the masses again with a full bang and the ultimate step taken by the administration was the night curfew.

People can be seen rushing on the roads to get back home on time since the curfew begins at 8 p.m. but the gearing up for following the curfew begins an hour early. This has impacted a lot of businesses. The tourism industry is also suffering to a great extent.

After the relaxation of lockdown, tourism industry was very close to getting back on tracks and energy levels of the people involved in this industry had taken a jump as they were feeling quite positive about the tourism sector to get a boost with destination weddings and tourists getting back to visit Udaipur.

Then came the bad news. Corona positive patients were increasing again and the charts began reflecting huge jumps in the number of patients. This forced the administration to impose night curfew and the timing of the curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. affected tourism, hotels, taxi bookings and restaurants to an unimaginable extent once again.

Diwali season had brought many tourists to the city and the numbers of tourists were increasing day by day. But with the night curfew, the numbers dropped to the level of disappointment. From 2000 plus, the number dropped to 200. All tourist spots are now isolated at the time when usually people move around to witness the beauty of the night in the city. Even the hotel bookings and taxi bookings have been cancelled. Restaurants had started running with full swing following all mandates, but the night curfew is now giving them a loss of around 10 lakh rupees per day. With the beginning of night curfew, 30 percent of the taxi bookings got cancelled within 3 days. The tourists were a boon to the city after 6 months of lockdown, but now every eye is on the 2021 as the situation has become helpless.
