Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles Stalled at Headquarters Level in Udaipur

To increase EV adoption, the government and various companies have introduced incentives and facilities

In an effort to promote electric vehicles (EVs) in Udaipur, plans to install new EV charging stations by the Municipal Corporation and UDA are currently delayed at the headquarters level. The limited availability of charging stations has slowed the adoption of electric vehicles in the city.

26 Charging Stations Planned for City

The Municipal Corporation had initially identified 12 locations within its jurisdiction and 14 in the UDA area for the installation of charging stations, each with 800 square feet allocated. These charging stations, resembling petrol pumps, were planned to ease EV use across the city.

Proposed Charging Station Locations

  • Outside Swarn Jayanti Park
  • Near Hotel Harshvardhan on Balicha Road
  • Gulab Bagh Parking
  • Sevashram Pulia Parking
  • Main Road of Pratap Nagar, near Judge Colony
  • On the reserved land of Udaipur Municipal Corporation at Savina Chauraha
  • Lavkush Stadium Parking
  • Near Meera Kala Kendra, Indira Rasoi
  • Outside the community building in Sector
  • Town Hall Parking
  • Fire Station at Madri and other stations

Dual Charging Points for Faster Access

Out of the 21 stations planned in the UDA area, six locations are set to have dual charging points with both slow and fast charging options. These locations were finalized, and a proposal was sent to the government, but it remains stalled at the headquarters.

EV Sales Remain Slow

Despite government efforts to promote electric vehicles and reduce air pollution, the adoption of EVs is progressing slowly in Udaipur. According to the Transport Department, only about 3,000 EVs are currently registered in the city, mostly two-wheelers.

Support from Companies and Government

To increase EV adoption, the government and various companies have introduced incentives and facilities. However, the lack of charging infrastructure remains a significant hurdle for potential buyers.
