UPI Payments to Soon Use Biometric Authentication

RBI has recently urged banks to explore new security options for OTP and card transactions...

In a move set to simplify online transactions, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is exploring the use of biometric authentication for UPI payments. Currently, users must enter a 4-digit or 5-digit PIN to complete transactions. The new system will allow payments through fingerprints or facial recognition.

This shift comes in response to rising UPI scams and PIN-related frauds. While the PIN system is secure, it remains vulnerable if someone learns your PIN.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently urged banks to explore new security options for OTP and card transactions. With biometric authentication, users on Android devices will use fingerprint recognition, while iPhone users will utilize Face ID, eliminating the need for the traditional PIN.

This advancement aims to enhance security and convenience in mobile payments.
