Bhilwara Controversy: Administration Struggling with Mob Management on Day Two
Bhilwara, 26 August: The protest at Bhilwara continued to escalate on Monday, 26 August after hundreds of people started protesting against the incident that took place a day before.
Damodar Agarwal, Member of Parliament (MP), Bhilwara also joined the protest later on Monday along with others, the protest broke out a day before after a severely injured bovine was discovered outside a temple escalating tensions in the district. The discovery, which included a tailless and bleeding injuries, triggered unrest among locals and led to violent clashes with the police.
Hundreds of protestors once again came on the road on Monday morning forcefully shutting down the markets and also pelted stones on the shops, following which, the police resorted to mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.The situation is still tense and heavy police force has been deployed in the area.
The violent confrontation between police and public caused injuries to a child, several other individuals, and two police officers. Apart from that, several buildings and even the police vehicles were also vandalised during the protest.
On Monday, 26 August, the angry mob started moving toward the Bhawani Nagar police station and Mangal Pandey Circle, which led to a standoff with the police. Despite police efforts to contain the situation, the advancing crowd clashed with officers, leading to the use of batons, which resulted in stone-pelting.
Bhilwara SP, Rajan Dushyant said, "As many as 8 people were detained so far by the police in connection with the incident, the situation is under control. We are still scanning the CCTV footage of the area, to identify the culprits the investigation is still underway additional police forces, including the Additional SP, DSP, and units from three police stations, are being deployed".
The incident occurred in the morning on Sunday, 25 August, at 10.30 am at Badla Chauraha, Bhawani Nagar where the injured bovine was found near a place of worship. The shocking discovery prompted a sit-in protest by locals, which soon attracted members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other Hindu organizations.
Collector Namit Mehta and Superintendent of Police Rajan Dushyant conducted a late-night inspection of key city areas, including main roads and intersections. They urged residents to maintain peace, ignore rumors, and avoid sharing misleading information on social media.
In the morning on 25 August, the unrest was triggered by vandalism at the Harani Mahadev Temple on Badla Chauraha Road, further inflaming the situation. The act of vandalism fueled the anger of residents and led to significant unrest, prompting a large gathering of saints, mahants, and various officials at the scene.
The head of Hari Sheva Dham of Bhilwara Mahant Hansaram said, "Eight to ten people have been apprehended by the police, but the SP assured that the actual culprits will also be arrested soon, and we have said that the protest at Bhilwara will not stop until all those who are involved in the incident will be arrested. SP said that they will soon apprehend the actual culprits. We have also demanded strict action against them and also Bulldozer action on their houses as was taken by the administration against the culprit at Udaipur in the stabbing incident. We have also sent a letter to the CM stating our demands. We have cooperated with the administration as today we have our festival and it should be celebrated peacefully. The officers have assured us that all the culprits will be arrested by Monday night".
