Chittorgarh: 5057.3kg Illegal Poppy Straw seized by CBN, 1 arrested
Udaipur, 8 January - After receiving specific intelligence, the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) Neemuch on 7 January that a Trailer truck would be carrying huge quantity of Poppy Straw (Doda Chura), team of officers of CBN Neemuch was formed and dispatched. Strict Surveillance on the suspected route was kept and after a few hours, the suspected truck was intercepted near Shri Dev Narayan Bhojnalay on Udaipur- Bhilwara highway near Gangrar village of Chittorgarh. The truck was carrying 120 bags of cattle feed as cover cargo to conceal the Poppy Straw.
Since it was not possible to search the truck on highway owing to security reasons, it was brought to the CBN office. The truck was thoroughly searched and during the search as many as 267 plastic bags of Poppy Straw weighing 5057.3 Kg were recovered.
After completion of legal formalities, the recovered Poppy Straw along with cattle feed and trailer have been seized and one person has been arrested under the relevant provisions of NDPS Act, 1985.
A day before a Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN), Chittorgarh along with support of DNC office Neemuch searched a house in village Pipaliya Mandi, district-Mandsaur (MP) and recovered 1131.9 Kg Poppy Straw in 57 plastic bags on 6 January.
Initially the owner of the house tried to escape by taking advantage of darkness but CBN officers chased him and apprehended him successfully and booked him under several sections of NDPS ACT.
The year 2023 has been one of the best years for Central Bureau of Narcotics (MP Unit) where outstanding performance was seen in every area.
As per Deputy Narcotics Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Kumar Meena record breaking Anti-Narcotics Operations were undertaken. One hundred and sixteen (116) seizures were booked in which 150 persons were arrested and 87 vehicles were seized. Different and unique modus operandi were busted. Total drugs seized was approximately 70 tons including Poppy Straw (Doda Chura), Opium (Afeem), Heroin (Brown Sugar), Cannabis (Ganja), M.D. Powder, Codeine Phosphate syrups, etc. This the highest number of cases in a year in the history of CBN. Approximately Rs 1 Cr cash was also seized during these operations.
High speed chases and numerous firing incidents also happened during these operations. Government vehicles also got damaged during interceptions, Meena added.
Meena further said that the biggest destruction operation of illicit opium poppy crop were carried out by Central Bureau of Narcotics in India till date. Operation "PRAHAAR" was undertaken in which destruction of 10326 Hectares (25526 Acres) of illicit opium in states of Arunachal Pradesh (8501 hectares) and Manipur (1825 hectares), despite adverse terrain and safety risks was successfully executed.
Operation "SHAKTI" was launched in Himachal Pradesh in which 1124 hectares (2777 Acres) of illicit Cannabis (Ganja) crop was destroyed by CBN officers. This was also the biggest destruction operation of illicit Ganja conducted by CBN in Himachal Pradesh.
Along with Anti-Narcotic operations, disposal of seized drugs was also taken up on priority resulting in disposal of more than 104 tons of contraband drugs seized in 86 cases, which is highest in history of CBN. The disposed of drugs included Poppy Straw (Doda Chura), Opium (Afeem), Heroin (Brown Sugar), Cannabis (Ganja), M.D. Powder, Codeine Phosphate syrups, lakhs of different Psychotropic tablets etc, Meena said.
