Bail plea by Asaram in Supreme Court opposed by Rajasthan government
It has also been reported that Asaram did not cooperate with the medical team and refused to take medicines and other treatments.
The government also said that he is merely trying to change place in the guise of seeking medical treatment.
The self-styled godman Asaram filed a bail plea in Supreme Court for medical treatment which has been opposed by Rajasthan government. The Rajasthan government says that Asaram is planning to change place of custody in the guise of medical treatment.
The state government argued that Asaram has now asked for treatment at Ayurvedic centres as his previous pleas were rejected. Prior to this, he had sought bail for his allopathic treatments. This is the 3rd time that Asaram is trying to get bail and the government has argued that the pleas are barely meant to change the place in the guise of treatment.
In 2016 a committee of doctors had examined this rape convict and concluded that he did not need any kind of surgery. In Feb 2021, a clinical summary by Jodhpur’s MM Hospital had advised a coronary angiography which Asaram rejected.
The Rajasthan government also informed the Court that as per AIIMS Jodhpur, Asaram did not cooperate with doctors and refused to take any kind of treatment. The affidavit put forward by the government further stated, “The modus operandi of the accused is identical to tone and tenor of the present petition.”
Asaram had tested Covid positive in May. It may be noted that this self-styled godman was awarded life-imprisonment by Jodhpur Court in 2018 under various sections of IPC and POCSO Act holding him guilty of various sexual assaults.
