ABCD: CBSE adopts Blockchain Technology for Board Exam results | 2019-2021 currently uploaded
Academic records that are digitally verified and in a secure blockchain platform can be accessed simultaneously by all stakeholders eliminating the third party verification process.
Subsequent to the adoption of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI & ML) for its fully digitized affiliation system named SARAS (School Affiliation Re-Engineered Automation System), the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has adopted BlockChain Technology for its results and academic documents.
The system, chirstened "Academic BlockChain Documents" or ABCD ensures that the academice documents are recorded in a secure and tamper proof manner and can be accessed online through trusted and verifiable means. This system used BlockChain technology to record the certificates in a linked chain structure.
Advantages to all stakeholders:
- Data is recorded in the chain
- Real Time verification by all stakeholders (College, University, Employer, etc)
- Simultaneously available across the distributed network of Block Chain nodes
- Eliminates dependency on a third party for verification
- Data is recorded under immutable and traceable security
- Data cannot be tampered with
- Can also be used for online counselling by the various institutes.
- Can be used by Banks for santioning education loans and metir-based scholarships based on qualifications.
How to access the certificates on the CBSE BlockChain system
- Login to https://cbse.certchain.nic.in.
- Click on "Verify" button on the menu.
- Select the Class in the dropdown, enter the roll number and other information that is asked for (date of birth, year and exam type).
- The verification algorithm will show you the certificate with the marks statement, and will also contain a digital signature and BlockChain verified stamp on the certificate.
CBSE has already made available the digitally signed certificates of Class X and XII for years 2019-2021 and will gradually push the certificates of previous years in the next few months. Upon issuance of new certificates by CBSE, the digitally signed certificates will be sent to the BlockChain based system creating an additional secure link. This network is currently established with nodes at Bangalore, Pune and Jaipur. Presently, the Certificate Chain is managed by NIC at its data centres.
CBSE in 2016 has developed its own repositiry for digital academic records under "Parinam Manjusha and integrated it with NEGD Digital Locker Platform. At present, result data of Class X & XII examinees of 18 years i.e., 2004 to 2021 has been made available online for students to download, and for verification by employers or higher education institutions. QR coded academic documents such as Marks Sheets, Migration Certificates and Pass Certificates are also available in this repository.
CBSE has developed this system in technical collaboration with Centre of Excellence for Block Chain Technology of National Informatics Centre under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Govt. of India.
