The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the release of a new syllabus and textbooks specifically tailored for students in Classes 3 to 6 for the academic year 2024-25, commencing from April 1, 2024. This decision comes after the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) informed CBSE of the ongoing development of these materials.

In a significant revision of the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), the Ministry of Education notified changes after 18 years. The NCF, which has seen revisions in the past, is being updated in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The NCERT is currently in the process of preparing the new textbooks, adhering to the guidelines outlined in the new national curriculum framework for school education (NCF-SE) 2023. These changes aim to enhance the quality and relevance of education provided to students.

The NCF for the foundational stage (FS) was launched in 2022, with the NCERT developing and curating learning-teaching material (LTM) accordingly. As part of this initiative, the Ministry of Education introduced "Jaadui Pitara," which includes toys, puzzles, puppetry, posters, flashcards, worksheets, and storybooks to facilitate engaging learning experiences at the foundational stage.

In light of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the NCERT had rationalized the syllabi of Classes 6 to 12 in 2022, aiming to reduce the content load on students. As a result, certain topics were removed from the curriculum, including chapters on Mughal courts, the 2002 Gujarat riots, the cold war, references to Mughal emperors, and the Emergency, as well as the periodic table.

This move underscores the commitment of educational authorities to adapt to evolving educational needs while ensuring a balanced and enriching learning experience for students across various grade levels.
