UGC: Freedom to Choose Any Subject at UG, PG Level
Dec 6, 2024, 20:17 IST
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced new rules to make access to education more flexible. Now, students can choose any subject for their undergraduate (UG) or postgraduate (PG) studies, even if it is different from what they studied in Class 12th or during their UG degree. These are the salient points of the new rules.
- Entrance Exam: Students need to pass an all-India level or university-level entrance exam to get admission to their desired course.
- Flexibility: Students can switch to a new field of study or subject that they are interested in.
- Multidisciplinary Learning: Students can explore and learn different types of subjects together.
More Options for Students
Students can also study two UG or PG programs at the same time. They can change the subject, institution, or learning mode (online or offline) as per the new rules. UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar said these changes aim to provide more learning opportunities and remove restrictions on what students can study. This makes education more inclusive and open for everyone.
