Nov 5, 2025 - The Central Government is planning to launch an RFID-based tracking system (Radio-Frequency Identification) for school buses across the country to ensure safer travel for children. This model is inspired by practices in countries like the USA, China and Singapore where RFID and GPS technologies are used to enhance safety of student transportation.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is preparing the model for this system. As per the plan, each student will be issued an RFID tag, and the system installed in the bus will record when the child boards and alights from the bus.
According to the Economic Survey 2024-25, India has 1.47 lakh schools with 24.8 crore students.
