NEET UG 2024 Counselling Postponed Amid Supreme Court Hearing

Candidates seek a direction for NTA to correct and re-publish the NEET UG 2024 results based on revised marks...

The counselling for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024 has been postponed until further notice. This update comes after the Supreme Court declined to delay the counselling, which was originally scheduled to start on July 6, 2024.

The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, will hear various NEET UG 2024 pleas on July 8.

Petitioners Concerns

  • Paper Leak: Some petitioners have alleged that there was a paper leak.
  • Exam Cancellation: Some are demanding the cancellation and reconduction of the entire exam.
  • Investigation:There are calls for an investigation into the operations of the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Government's Stand

  • Affidavit Filed:The Union Government has filed an affidavit opposing the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 exam.
  • Reasoning:The government argues that without proof of a large-scale breach, scrapping the exam is not rational.

NTA's Response

  • Physics Question Controversy: The NTA has refuted claims that a physics question with two correct options adversely impacted candidates.
  • Information Bulletin: The NTA cited instructions stating that if more than one option is correct, four marks will be awarded to those who marked any correct option.
  • Challenges Received: NTA received 13,373 challenges to an answer in the physics section.

Candidate's Plea

  • Ambiguous Question: One plea argued that a question with two correct options was "ambiguous."
  • Negative Marking: The candidate left the question unattempted to avoid negative marking and loss of rank.
  • Correction Request: Candidates seek a direction for NTA to correct and re-publish the NEET UG 2024 results based on revised marks.

The Supreme Court will consider these issues and make a decision on July 8, 2024.
