NMC Issues New Guidelines for Starting PG Medical Courses
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has introduced new regulations for medical colleges seeking to launch postgraduate (PG) courses such as MD, MS, DM, or MCh. According to the guidelines, colleges must first approach the Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) for approval. Only after receiving a suitable response from the board can the institution submit a formal application, along with the required fees.
Under the 2023 regulations, medical institutions offering undergraduate, postgraduate, or super-specialty courses must apply to the concerned board for the inclusion of any new qualifications. The application process involves submitting two forms—Part-A and Part-B—along with a fee of Rs 2,50,000 plus 18% GST per qualification.
These steps are intended to ensure that all new medical courses are thoroughly reviewed and approved before they are offered to students.
