Textbooks in Indian Languages Under New Scheme

Under the Bhartiya Bhasha Pustak scheme, books for 4,000 to 5,000 undergraduate and postgraduate courses will be prepared in Indian languages

July 28, 2025 - The Department of Higher Education has launched the Bhartiya Bhasha Pustak (Indian Language Book) scheme to provide university and higher education textbooks in digital format and in Indian languages. Course mapping has already been completed for this initiative.

Under the scheme, books for 4,000 to 5,000 undergraduate and postgraduate courses will be prepared in Indian languages. The project will include both translation and original writing in these languages. Over the next three years, textbooks for thousands of courses will become available in Indian languages.

The Ministry of Education aims to develop textbooks in 22 Indian languages, customised to the specific linguistic needs of each State.

The government is also offering students the option to pursue Engineering and medical education in regional languages, making this initiative particularly beneficial.
