NTA Extends Deadline for UGC NET Exam's Registration Date
NTA : UGC NET exam's eligibility criteria also expanded
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has extended the deadline for applying for the UGC NET June 2024 exam. The exam, scheduled for June 18, 2024, will witness candidates vying for positions in various categories.
Exam Details
The UGC NET exam for June 2024 will encompass 83 subjects and will be conducted in the OMR (pen and paper) format, as confirmed by education counsellor Vikas Chhajed. Candidates now have until May 15, 2024, to submit their applications, with the application fee payment deadline extended to May 17. Moreover, applicants have the opportunity to rectify any errors in their applications from May 18 to 20.
Eligibility Criteria Expansion
A significant change in the eligibility criteria has been introduced, allowing candidates with a four-year bachelor's degree to apply for the UGC NET exam. This expansion opens doors for a broader spectrum of students, including those in their final year of a four-year undergraduate program. Previously, candidates were required to hold a postgraduate degree with a minimum of 55% marks. Now, a minimum of 75% marks or equivalent grade in the four-year undergraduate program suffices for eligibility.
Categorization of Candidates
Candidates appearing for the UGC NET exam will be categorized into three groups based on their eligibility:
- Those eligible for admission in PhD, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), and Assistant Professor positions.
- Those eligible for admission in PhD and Assistant Professor positions.
- Students eligible only for admission in PhD.
Application Fee
The application fee structure for the UGC NET exam is as follows:
- General category: Rs. 1150/-
- OBC category: Rs. 600/-
- SC/ST/Transgender candidates: Rs. 325/-
